Driver Services

Logo for Motor Vehicle DivisionThe mission of the Motor Vehicle Division is to pursue and promote efficient, cost-effective programs that benefit the interests, safety and well-being of Montana citizens through licensing, registering and regulating the motoring activities of the public.

The Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) continuously strives for excellence in customer service. In recent years, streamlining the way we do business has allowed us to improve our efficiency and make our services more convenient for our customers. A major part of that process is a new computer system – the Montana Enhanced Registration & Licensing Information Network (MERLIN).

Through this new system, many MVD services are now available on the Internet. Our customers can request their driving records or research a vehicle's history online. And when MERLIN is fully implemented, they will also be able to register their vehicles online.
