Other Training
In addition to the courses conducted by the Montana Law Enforcement Academy, other divisions within the Department of Justice and other state agencies offer specialized training for law enforcement and public safety professionals.
Criminal Justice Information Network (CJIN) Courses
To maintain an effective state criminal justice information system and satisfy federal training requirements, all law enforcement and criminal justice professionals who access CJIN must complete certification within six months of gaining access and must recertify every two years.
Web-based Training
CJIN Services provides an advanced web-based learning management system that is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and presents on-line certification and recertification training programs customized to meet the needs of different CJIN user levels. In addition, through the learning management system, users can view their personal CJIN training transcripts and register to attend CJIN regional courses and conferences.
Instructor-led Courses
- CJIN Inquiry Certification Course – an eight-hour course that presents an overview of Montana's Criminal Justice Information Network, the National Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (NLETS) and the FBI's National Crime Information Center (NCIC).
- CJIN Record Entry Course – an eight-hour course designed to train CJIN users in the proper entry and maintenance of CJIN and NCIC Hot File records.
- CJIN Mobile Users Certification Course – a six-hour course designed for law enforcement officers who access CJIN through mobile computers in their vehicles.
Annual Training Conference
Every year, CJIN Services hosts the CJIN Terminal Agency Coordinator (TAC) Conference. The two-day statewide conference educates participating agencies on the latest system enhancements and policy updates. Agencies also are given the opportunity to share ideas for future development of Montana's criminal justice information systems.
