Sexual or Violent Offender Registry
Montana's Sexual or Violent Offender Registration Act is designed to protect the public from sexual and violent offenders by requiring offenders to register with local law enforcement agencies in the jurisdiction where they reside. The Registry, created in 1989, is located in Helena in the Department of Justice. In creating the Registry, the Legislature acknowledged that there is a compelling interest in providing the public with information about people convicted of sexual and violent offenses. Searching the Registry is free. You may search by name, by city or county, or by offender type.
Anyone who uses this information to injure, harass or commit a criminal act against any person may be subject to criminal prosecution.
Contact your local law enforcement agency if you have information about:
- recent criminal activity by a registered offender or other individuals
- the address of an offender who has failed to provide the required information about his or her whereabouts, referred to as a non-compliant registrant
